Job Description

  • The Resource Geologist’s role is to develop geological resource evaluations of exploration and operational projects, using specialized and appropriately customized software and manage legal risk to the organisation.

The role involves technically accurate and precise application of routines after developing a profound and incisive understanding of the content and implications of resource data. This is to achieve schedules for the geological evaluation components of project delivery, with accuracy of data capture and interpretation of exploration and operational projects. The role requires a committed professional approach to the work.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Collate, analyse, and evaluate data using specialized software and customised routines.

Effective evaluation and reporting of resources.

Competent application of QA/Qc procedures.

Monitor evaluations progress against project schedules and advise.

Management and facilitating of the transition and integration of sampling data from excel databases to digitised platforms i.e. MineRP.

Producing or Updating of existing resource models with newly acquired data

Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices.

Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.

This role forms part of the Geology function at a Band 6 level reporting to the Chief Geologist


Completed degree or BTech in a relevant Geosciences or related discipline.

A qualification in Statistics would be advantageous

Required Experience:
A minimum of 5 years experience in underground hard-rock mining geology, preferably with exposure within the Bushveld Igneous Complex and/or Platinum Geology

Exposure with the Declaration /Reporting of resources and reserves as per SAMREC code compliance.

Exposure with the active and direct involvement in Resource Evaluation of Exploration and Underground Mine work.

Experience in the development of Resource Evaluation routines.

Experience in Geostatistics, geological modelling and evaluation.

Experience in the conducting of extensive QA/QC monitoring to ensure data and interpretations are accurate with the use of appropriate tools e.g. DataShed.

Experience in managing all information related to the resource, ensuring assays, composites, densities, and related information are accurate and validated.

Experience in monitoring regulatory compliance pertaining to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates.

Knowledge on geological modelling software e.g. Datamine

Other Requirements:
Advanced computer literacy.

Valid Certificate of Fitness.
